Five principles that guide every decision — from the products we stock, to the team we hire, to the community we build.
Provide Montclair with a cannabis experience that honors the plant, respects the customer, and strengthens the community we call home.
THE
five.
- PRINCIPLE01QUALITY
Not negotiable.
Every product evaluated for potency, purity, consistency, experience. Lab results read before ordering. We test ourselves where possible. We listen to customer feedback and adjust inventory based on real experience — not marketing materials. Quality also extends past product — to the shopping experience, the information we provide, the space you walk into. A standard, not a department.
- PRINCIPLE02COMMUNITY
Where we live.
Montclair isn't where we do business — it's where we live, eat, raise kids. A portion of proceeds back into local partnerships, sponsorships, community initiatives. Hire from Montclair and surrounding towns. Source locally. Hold ourselves to the neighborhood standards that make this town worth living in. The Planning Board voted 5–0 because they trusted us — we take that trust seriously every day.
- PRINCIPLE03CULTURE
Music + cannabis isn't an accessory.
Cannabis culture and music culture are the foundation. The Kushner family spent decades in broadcasting — that heritage informs everything from the atmosphere of our store to events we host. We honor cannabis history including the communities disproportionately harmed by prohibition. We acknowledge the artists, advocates, and activists who brought us to legalization. We stay current — culture evolves, and so do we.
- PRINCIPLE04EDUCATION
An informed customer is a better customer.
Cannabis spent decades in the shadows — misinformation filled the void. Now legal, the need for honest, science-based education is greater than ever. Budtenders trained to educate, not just sell. The Library hosts a comprehensive education hub — basic science to NJ law to consumption methods. Better customers build a better industry.
- PRINCIPLE05RESPONSIBILITY
How we operate sets the public perception.
Legal cannabis is still new in NJ. How dispensaries operate in these early years shapes public perception for decades. Strict age verification. Proper packaging + labeling. Honest marketing — no medical claims, no underage targeting. Staff trained to recognize when a customer needs dosing guidance. Full compliance with NJ-CRC standards, and beyond them where it matters. Honest about what cannabis is and isn't.
