FORTY-ONE
THOUSAND.
Montclair is one of the most culturally dynamic towns in all of New Jersey. With a population of roughly 41,000, a median household income north of $188,000, and a civic identity built on arts, diversity, and independent business — this is a community that has never settled for generic.
Montclair residents drive an extra twenty minutes for the right coffee. They seek out the independent bookstore over the chain. They care about provenance, craft, and relationships with the people behind the counter.
That ethos is exactly why Kush Connection exists. When New Jersey legalized adult-use cannabis in 2021 and municipalities began opting in, Montclair was among the towns that recognized cannabis retail as a legitimate, taxable, community-serving business.
For years, Montclair residents had no local option. The nearest licensed dispensary was a twenty-minute drive into Bloomfield, Paterson, or Maplewood. That cannabis desert is over.

THE DESERT
is over.
Before 2023, Montclair had zero licensed cannabis retail locations. A town of 41,000 — many of whom had been consuming cannabis privately for decades — had nowhere local to purchase it legally.
That changed when Montclair Township granted three retail cannabis licenses along Bloomfield Avenue. The township’s approach was intentional: concentrate licenses on the commercial corridor rather than scatter them across residential neighborhoods, ensuring walkability, visibility, and integration into the existing retail ecosystem.
Kush Connection at 665 Bloomfield Avenue is part of that transformation. But we didn’t arrive as outsiders. The Kushner family has lived in Montclair since the 1990s. Jake Kushner, who spent his career in broadcast radio and music, built Kush Connection not as a corporate investment but as a neighborhood business.
In a market where multi-state operators are opening cookie-cutter locations and cycling through staff every three months, Kush Connection is built for permanence. Our budtenders live in the community. Our buying decisions reflect what Montclair customers actually ask for, not what a corporate office in another state tells us to stock.

CAMPUS &
community.
Montclair State University brings approximately 21,000 students to the area during the academic year. While only those 21+ can purchase cannabis, the campus contributes to a vibrant young energy that shapes the town.
Beyond campus, Montclair’s demographics split into distinct neighborhoods. Upper Montclair skews toward families with higher incomes and a preference for wellness-oriented products. South End draws a more diverse crowd. Watchung Plaza attracts a professional commuter demographic.
We carry indica-dominant strains and sleep-targeted edibles for the Upper Montclair parent managing insomnia. Sativa-forward pre-rolls and cartridges for the creative professional. CBD-dominant tinctures for the older resident exploring cannabis for the first time. The menu reflects the town — not a generic corporate catalog.

WHY MONTCLAIR
chooses KCN.
Montclair has options. Three licensed dispensaries operate on Bloomfield Avenue alone. So why do customers come back to Kush Connection? Because this dispensary was built by Montclair residents, for Montclair residents. The Kushner family didn’t pick this town from a real estate spreadsheet — they have lived here for over three decades.
That local knowledge shows up in every detail. Montclair customers ask more questions than the average dispensary visitor. They want terpene profiles, not just THC percentages. They want to know where a strain was cultivated and how. They want budtenders who can have an informed conversation, not read off a card.
It also shows up in our culture. Jake Kushner spent decades in broadcast radio and music production. Cannabis and music have always been intertwined, and Kush Connection honors that connection — in the space, in the brand, in the energy when you walk through the door.
We’re not the cheapest dispensary in town. We’re not trying to be. We carry the best products, staff the most knowledgeable budtenders, and run a delivery service that shows up when it says it will. For Montclair, that’s the standard.
